Alpha Phi Omega
Kappa Gamma
Alumni Association
#420
Alpha Phi Omega Kappa Gamma Chapter first saw its alumni when some of its petitioning members graduated, but it would take many years before the APO-KG Alumni Association was officially established. The idea of forming an alumni association was frequently discussed during get-togethers, with early meetings held informally among alumni. Another major gathering took place during the chapter’s 20th anniversary celebration. While there had been hopes to establish the association by the chapter’s 25th anniversary, it had not yet materialized despite the milestone celebrations.
As the chapter faced challenges in recruiting members, alumni made various efforts to support the residents. During these visits, the idea of an alumni association resurfaced, with attempts to hold regular meetings, though participation gradually declined. The passing of one of the fraternity’s most active alumni later served as a catalyst, inspiring renewed commitment and leading to regular online meetings that ultimately paved the way for the official establishment of the association.
In a hybrid ceremony combining online and in-person participation, the APO Kappa Gamma Alumni Association formally inducted its officers. Representatives from the APO National Office attended the event, meeting with key officers in person while the rest of the members joined online. The APO KG Alumni Association is now officially recognized and is committed to keeping alumni connected, supporting their success, and upholding the fraternity’s enduring principles of leadership, friendship, and service.

Alpha Phi Omega A Legacy of Leadership and Service
“Where the motivating idea is to look for the good and try to do good to everyone regardless of who or what belief – Here is the core and the very standard of the Cardinal Principle of Friendship. Plain and simple”
Alpha Phi Omega is an international service fraternity founded in 1925, committed to leadership, friendship, and service. It empowers students to make a positive impact in their communities and develop into ethical, community-minded leaders.
Alpha Phi Omega: An International History
Alpha Phi Omega (APO) is a distinguished coeducational service fraternity with a rich international history rooted in the values of leadership, friendship, and service. Founded on December 16, 1925, at Lamar Hall, Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, APO was established by Frank Reed Horton and a group of like-minded students inspired by the principles of the Boy Scouts of America. The organization’s foundational goal was to bring together college students to render service to the community, promote friendship, and develop leadership skills grounded in moral and ethical values.
From its modest beginnings in the United States, APO quickly became recognized for its commitment to nonsectarian service and inclusivity. The fraternity adopted the Scout Oath and Scout Law as guiding principles, which continue to shape the moral compass of its members worldwide. Its motto, “Be a Servant to All,” encapsulates the spirit of selfless service that defines APO.
Expansion Beyond the United States
The first major step toward international presence came when APO chapters were established in the Philippines in 1950, marking the fraternity’s entry into Asia. APO Philippines grew rapidly, establishing numerous chapters across major universities and institutions, adapting the principles of service, leadership, and fellowship to local contexts while maintaining the fraternity’s core values. Over the decades, APO extended its reach to other countries, creating a global network of service-oriented students and alumni who continue to engage in humanitarian, educational, and community development programs.
Global Programs and Recognition
Today, Alpha Phi Omega operates as an international service fraternity with a focus on three cardinal principles: Leadership, Friendship, and Service. Its international programs emphasize civic responsibility, leadership development, and collaborative service initiatives. APO members actively participate in local and international projects, including disaster relief, environmental programs, and youth leadership development, creating a lasting impact on communities worldwide.
The fraternity’s international recognition stems not only from its service projects but also from its strong alumni network that spans multiple continents. Through its global reach, APO has become a symbol of ethical leadership, camaraderie, and social responsibility, inspiring generations of students to uphold the values of service above self.
Legacy
Alpha Phi Omega’s international history is a testament to the power of student-driven service organizations in fostering leadership and community impact. From a single chapter in Pennsylvania to a global fraternity, APO has consistently nurtured leaders who translate friendship into action, and service into enduring change. Its ongoing mission continues to inspire members to serve humanity with humility and integrity, embodying the timeless ideals upon which it was founded nearly a century ago.
